Sauron, being led willingly away in golden chains by Ar-Pharazon and army. This is a preliminary sketch that evolved into a colored picture for some reason... anyway Ar-Pharazon himself coming up next, I hope :3
Looks awesome!!! Hmm I feel like lots of people are drawing Sauron these days...but most of them have been too ermmm feminine for my liking. Your version is just the right level of manly.
Omg let me love you. I feel exactly the same way! Phobs in particular has drafted such a lovely (and now famous) version of him that a lot of people are drawn to, but that was never my vision. He's a blacksmith and a lieutenant of armies of darkness, he needs some butch and manly muscle. x3
By the way you are pretty awesome, judging by your favs (Scarecrow? YES Dragons? Gaming?) Why no art though? x3 Anyway, thanks for the comment!
But you do draw Melkor fragile and feminine, even though he originally seems to be rather chaotic, destructive and raw indivdual, even more than Sauron... well, this is all a matter of female/male behavior and image stereotypes, which are always rather limitated, rigid and very often not so accurate.
BUT! don't get me wrong, I like a lot your characters desing, both Sauron and Melkor, as well as Phob's, diferent interpretions and points of view are always a beautiful thing to watch, besides it's good to see the dark lords pictured beyond just some ugly/evil image.
YOU'RE RIGHT. I know. I could draw them both more masculine, I suppose. I have some text justification, certainly in Angband, Melkor sort of locks himself up and doesn't go out a lot, and he is stuck in one form and unable to change his shape anymore to appear larger, like he once could when he was shaping and smashing mountains. When I made the initial design in my head, it was not as feminine, but also not as bulky and muscular as Sauron.. he is just as tall, to my mind, but more lithe and quick. I think I just end up drawing him sort of femme as a contrast to Sauron.. sometimes it's more like that, sometimes less. And I agree! One of the things I love best about this fandom (Silmarillion) is how different people's interpretations of the characters are! I too love Phobs' work, especially when I first came across it in the void, after having seen no Silmarillion artwork in a long time. She's a brilliant artist.
Phobs is a great artist, but yeah, I can't really see Sauron that way. Thank you for the compliments! Ummm so the no art thing...I've been on dA for years but I have this really bad problem of starting projects and not finishing them. However when I read the Silmarillion it gave my new inspiration and drive to create art. I am SUPER close to completing a drawing of Feanor which will be my first deviation!
Hooray! I can't wait to see Feanor! <3 I agree, sometimes it's hard to push through to the finish of a project. Sometimes the key is to do a smaller project through to the finish first, to get some practice at starting and finishing things. ^_^ I know I always go for the big sprawling epic and get bored a third of the way through. Sometimes a short story will suffice!
Gorgeous armor and Sauron is looking gorgeous in it!I also really like his smug look. Oh, Sauron, you are a master of deception!

*You will never be as awesome as me, silly mortals...*
